Warm-up
"The further back
you can look, the further forward you are likely to see"
Winston Churchill
Goal
Reflect on what you have learned. Engage in the practice of metacognition.
Objectives
- Identify enduring ideas from this class.
- State how your instruction will be different as a result of this class.
- Evaluate your experience in the course.
Warm-Up Questions
Have you ever experienced the following:
You were sure that you had learned a lot from some experience, seminar,
class, etc., but you were too busy to reflect upon it or write down
any notes about what had happened.
You never had a chance to organize in your mind how this new knowledge
or these new skills and insights fit into or affected your life, let
alone what positive changes you could make as a result of it.
Not too long after the initial experience, someone asked you what it
was like and what you had learned. You pondered this question for a
while, but then you couldn't come up with anything but the most general
praise like, "Yeah, it was great!"
But HOW was it great? Where did that new knowledge and insight go?
What do you normally do (or could you do) to make sure that important
ideas endure?
